5: Digital Muddle

Three poster designs for the Sandman comic series by Neil Gaiman. This was an assignment for my digital design class. I uh. Suck. At graphic design, and I can only hope for improvement (especially considering I have a whole class dedicated to it next year with an apparently scary teacher).

Even after owning a tablet for almost four years, digital art doesn't come very easily to me. The most I've progressed to are busts, busts, and busts, all without backgrounds of any sort. Nevertheless, here are two quick reference-less quickies I whipped up after classes today to destress. I suspect summer will be chock full of this kind of thing. :] I used mostly Corel Painter and added textures and final touches in Photoshop. Here's some wip stages of the dog-lizard.

  1. I like your Sandman posters. I've never read the comic or even know what it's about, but all of these are really graphic and eye catching. I think I'm partial to the last one with the first in close, close second.

  2. Ack, I need to figure out if/how Blogger notifies about comments!

Thank you very much for the compliments, Amanda! The last one was my initial idea, and I tried to base the others off of it, in a way. I really, really recommend Sandman; the storytelling is fantastic and the variation of art between volumes is quite fun. In short, it's about the anthropomorphic personification of Dream and his life. :]
